In this post in the Rittinger lab, I shall be investigating the ubiquitination activity and cellular functions of the TRIM protein family members using a variety of proteomic and high-throughput screening approaches.

At Moorfields Eye Charity I worked closely with internal and external stakeholders, including clinicians, researchers and donors, to help refine and deliver a programme of philanthropy-supported grants at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and Moorfields Eye Hospital.As part of this, I managed the full life cycle of a portfolio of grants - from peer review and awarding the grant, through to managing expenditure and reporting. I also communicated the findings and impact of research through articles on the MEC website and social media.

In this role I helped deliver an AMRC-approved grant programme of peer and panel reviewed projects. I then also managed grant reporting and finances of the grants portfolio.I'm also proud to have supported patient and public involvement in Crohn's and ulcerative colitis research, including doubling our social media following, initiating two newsletters, and writing numerous blogs and news articles on the latest findings.This role has taught me the power of patient involvement in research - by connecting researchers/clinicians with people who have these conditions, the power and impact of the studies can be exponentially increased!

I worked alongside Prof. Ivan Gout to characterise the properties of the reversible post-translational modification of proteins with coenzyme A (CoA) in resisting oxidative and metabolic cell stresses in neurodegenerative diseases.

During my doctoral studies I used a variety of molecular, biochemical, and microscopy techniques to investigate the role of autophagy in oncogenic signalling in glioblastoma multiforme. This work has generated data for two first author research articles as well as giving me the opportunity to write a review article on the roles of autophagy in the endocytic pathway.

Undergraduate degree with placement year at AstraZeneca.My third year dissertation focussed on characterising the cellular role of a novel splicing isoform of the key signalling protein S6 kinase 2.

Studying the mechanisms of inflammation using a zebrafish model, using in situ hybridisation and FRET.

During this placement year spent working in the research & development team I gained a considerable amount of experience working in an industrial setting.My report for my course at University College London on this work was graded with a strong first class mark (84%).
