As a Recycling Intern, I organized raw recycling data that was reported by communities during 2013-2022 with Excel spreadsheets. I then collaborated with GIS to create a Recycling Dashboard by providing them with the organized data. The goal of this dashboard was to incentivize communities to report their recycling data. It also is now easier to find out how much different communities in Arizona are recycling. Additionally, I researched recycling grant programs in Arizona and other states.

At this internship, I compared utility data (water, gas, solar, electric) from various school districts to their historic utility data to highlight trends and outliers. To do so, I would create Excel spreadsheets to track monthly utility usage and cost for clients. I would also frequently work with the Data and Sustainability Managers to help them find solutions related to reducing the energy and water consumption of schools in Arizona and Wisconsin. By reducing their consumption, it not only benefited the environment, but saved the client money.

At this internship, I conducted field hikes on the various trails at Usery Mountain Regional Park while mapping the location of invasive plant species using the ArcGIS Field Maps app. I mapped 639 invasive plant species' locations, which described a total of almost 40,000 individual invasive plants. I also helped co-lead invasive species removal events to reduce the number of harmful weeds throughout the regional parks. At these events, I assisted with the removal of almost 1.5 million pounds of invasive plants. Not only did this help restore the natural ecosystems of the regional parks, but reduced wildfire risk.

GreenLight Solutions (GLS) is a club at Arizona State University. GLS trains students in sustainability project management by providing them with applied learning opportunities in the field. They also give small-medium sized businesses the opportunity to implement more sustainable practices. In Spring 2023, I worked as a Project Co-Lead and Solutioneer for a project with Green Education.US (GE.US). This company provides Sustainable Resource Management certifications, classes, and webinars for sustainability students and professionals. As a team, we conducted research on the current state of the sustainability workforce and obtained valuable student feedback on GE.US educational offerings through survey creation and analysis. Additionally, we formed strategic partnerships to effectively promote GE.US programs via 7 social media posts with the goal of increasing the number of students that participate in GE.US courses.
