This involved managing a small team and close collaboration with all third sector partners, Faculty Placement Managers and academic colleagues across the University.A major focus of the role is to build positive and effective working relationships with a range of voluntary and third sector organisations as well as local government, schools, hospitals, the police and community groups. The overall aim of the role is plan, review and continuously improve the number, quality and availability of volunteering opportunities and associated activities for students at the University of Portsmouth as part of the 'Careers and Employability Service' Service Plan.The number of students recorded as undertaking volunteering more than tripled since the academic year 2013/2014, and by 2018, there were well over 700 students out volunteering via the Volunteering Team, based in the Careers and Employability Service, and in excess of 1300 if work based learning in the third sector, supported by academic staff, is added to this figure. In the academic year 2016/2017 students committed over 54,000 hours of their time to the community in the form of volunteering or work based learning. The number of 1st year students involved in volunteering increased by 153%.In 2017/2018 the Volunteering Team processed over 2000 volunteering applications for 144 different organisations and saw a 130% increase on the previous year's applications.
