About Jane Lomax-Smith

Dr Jane Lomax-Smith AM has a medical degree, a BSc in comparative anatomy and anthropology, a PhD in renal immunology and FRCPA as a Specialist Histopathologist. Jane has worked in London, Boston, and Adelaide and has engaged in research, university teaching and clinical pathology over a 30 year career. She has managed Pathology Departments, her own Practice and was been a Director of TechInSA (formerly BioSA) and was Acting Director of RiAus. She has been the Presiding Member of the Teachers Registration Board SA , Chair of the South Australian Museum and a member of the JAM Factory Board. She reviewed Higher Education Base Funding for the Commonwealth of Australia and developed a transition plan for a post-coal mining community for the South Australian State Government,entitled Leigh Creek Futures. Jane is Chair of the Don Dunstan Foundation and is a Director of FAUNA Research Alliance. She is an active member of the World Federation of Friends of Museums. In January 2013 , Jane was made a Member of the Order of Australia and in 2018 awarded an honorary DSc by the University of Adelaide. Jane was elected to the Adelaide City Council serving three terms as a Councillor and two as Lord Mayor, before being elected to the South Australian State Parliament in 2002 and served as a Minister for eight years (in the Education and Tourism portfolios). In 2022 Jane was re-elected to the City of Adelaide Council as Lord Mayor. Jane is a popular and experienced public speaker with an interest in architecture , military history , social housing, and cities.
