Information Scientist
• Poisons Information. Answering emergency telephone enquiries from the medical profession providing specialist advice on the management of poisoning cases. Keeping up to date with developments in the field by regular searches of the literature., internet and other information sources. • Answering non-urgent written enquiries or other information requests. Production of reference documents that can be supplied in an emergency situation, or as needed.• Research; Follow up cases to determine outcome- using this information, combined with published literature, to produce and maintain a database of protocols for the management of specific agents. This information is also published where possible, at conferences or in peer-reviewed journals. • Providing the same services to the veterinary profession in cases of animal poisoning. • Outreach work includes giving lectures and other training to medical and veterinary professionals, and providing written training resources.• SMS (emergency Scientific and Medical Services). This provides medical response and emergency unblinding sevices for clinical trials and medical information for marketed products. This includes SAE and AE reporting, and GCP is followed.• Chemical Hazards and Poisons Division: Scanning relevant literature and current regulatory standards to co-ordinate, prepare and update chemical information
