• Represented two clients in collaboration with a fellow student attorney in the Reentry Clinic.• Filed a client’s motion for resentencing under the Maryland Juvenile Restoration Act and argued at his hearing in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. The judge granted his motion, resulting in the client’s release after 34 years in prison.• Participated in weekly seminars in which student attorneys conducted rounds and problem-solved various issues.• Conducted weekly phone calls, in addition to monthly in-person visits at the clients’ respective facilities, to provide clients with updates, strategize next steps for their cases, and maintain working relationships.

• Tracked over 600 cases placed with a pro bono attorney or federal public defender through FAMM’s emergency COVID-19 Compassionate Release Clearinghouse.• Participated in weekly meetings with the Office of General Counsel to discuss and strategize case assignments.• Evaluated client cases to determine their eligibility for compassionate release under 18 U.S.C. § 3582(c)(1)(A).• Contacted family members whose loved ones had been sentenced to a minimum of 25 years after being convicted of two or more counts of 18 U.S.C. § 924(c) to determine if they qualify for compassionate release.

• Semester-long externship in the Public Defender Service's Civil Division for the Fall 2020 semester. • Conducted legal research and wrote memoranda for staff attorneys on topics including special education procedures, guardianship laws in D.C., and qualified immunity laws in the United States.• Compiled several hundred documents into succinct, organized case timelines for client files.• Created a catalog of organizations in D.C. that provide legal fee assistance, programming, and affordable housing.

• Full-time internship at PDS in the Prisoner and Reentry Legal Services Program. • Represented clients in disciplinary hearings heard by the D.C. Jail’s Administrative Adjustment Board.• Wrote two motions to seal client criminal records under D.C. Code § 16-802 and § 16-803.• Coordinated and conducted client interviews in preparation for disciplinary hearings and writing motions.• Wrote letters in response to incarcerated clients inquiring into the status of their individual cases, their eligibility for record sealing, information about COVID-19 at their facility, and other issues of concern.• Participated in a Trial Practice Group in which clerks delivered opening/closing statements and cross-examinations.

Led administrative efforts for the Rapid Employment and Development Initiative (READI) Chicago team, a non-violence initiative that uses cognitive behavioral therapy and transitional jobs to reduce violence among men at the highest risk of engaging in gun violence. Organized team schedules, compiled reports on the initiative's progress, created resources for meetings, and managed the inventory and distribution of ~$65,000 of stipends to over 400 participants of the initiative monthly.
