Jane Lowe Meisel, MD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She joined Winship as a practicing physician in January 2015. She also serves as the Associate Vice Chair of Faculty Development for the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology at the institution.Dr. Meisel is a medical oncologist with a special interest in women's health and in cancers that affect women, including breast and gynecologic cancers. Her goal is to provide compassionate, exceptional, state-of-the-art care to patients fighting these diseases, and to conduct research that improves treatment options for these patients.Dr. Meisel is a member of the Breast Committee at the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group and serves on the Development Therapeutics Committee at NRG Oncology. She also serves as leader of the Professional Development Committee Women in Oncology Work Group and as a member of the Cancer Education Committee at the American Society of Clinical Oncology.A native of Atlanta, Dr. Meisel graduated magna cum laude from Harvard College in 2004 with a degree in the History of Science, and earned her medical degree in 2008 from Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA in 2011 and completed her fellowship in medical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. She served as Chief Fellow there from 2013 to 2014.Dr. Meisel has presented her research on breast cancer and gynecologic malignancies at national meetings and has published her work in peer-reviewed journals. Her research is focused on the development of new therapeutic options for women with gynecologic and breast cancers, and on improving quality of life for these patients. She serves as the principal investigator for many therapeutic trials for patients with breast and gynecologic malignancies at Winship Cancer Institute.
