Assistant Principal with strategic whole academy responsibility for the Curriculum and Exams, and the promotion of academy aims and ethos. Head of Mandela Chapter responsible for the development, ethos and progress of some 360 students aged 12-16 inculcating a climate of aspiration, high achievement and good behaviour. Working with subject teams and the examinations office to ensure the consistent implementation, review and monitoring of a range of policies and procedures. Line management, support and monitoring of the work of middle managers, sharing in staff development and performance management. Alongside others on the senior leadership team planning, implementing and reviewing the academy improvement plan, and contributing to the day-to-day smooth running of the academy, special events and collective worship. Providing information, advice and support to the academy council and presenting a coherent and accurate account of the academy’s performance to a range of audiences working to enhance and extend relationships with community partners.

11-19 curriculum focus working with all subject leaders and the others on the leadership team to devise a new curriculum with clear progression routes, vocational alternatives and new courses.

Member of the Leadership team with whole school management and leadership responsibilities focussing on the management of the Post-16 College and the Curriculum 11-19. This first stage of Academy status was a period of institution wide change and restructuring to ensure smooth transition from one system and ethos to another. Through strong leadership I worked with my teams to respond effectively and efficiently to change, and to develop a proactive approach to curriculum. At Post 16 level I took this opportunity to introduce the AQA Baccalaureate and the Extended Project Qualification to the curriculum as well as continuing partnership courses with other schools and colleges.

Responsible for developing a coherent 14-19 curriculum that had relevance to personalised learning and catered for the needs of students. Including line management of the Head of Post-16 and Examinations Officers, as well as taking a lead on the federation Post-16 with partner schools and colleges, and offering strategic leadership of vocational education 14-19 and alternative 14-16 curriculum opportunities.

Whole school management and leadership responsibilities focusing on the management of the Post-16 College, aspects of Community Education (Adult, Youth, Nursery) and of Educational, Personal and Vocational guidance for Post-16. A challenging and exciting role that called for imaginative methods and new ideas. Through strong leadership and concern for young people working to create a centre where everyone could learn to achieve.

Managing the development and realisation of a Key Skills programme (Literacy, Numeracy and ICT skills Levels 1, 2 and 3) for Sixth Form across curriculum areas within the school including researching and disseminating information about staffing requirements, about most suitable courses, syllabuses, modes of delivery and curriculum organisation, monitoring, assessment and verification. Also, leading and managing the team of teachers delivering and the students studying Key Skills by managing the tracking, verification and accreditation of assignments, examination entries and keeping all informed about developments in Key Skills courses.
