This summer 2024 I had two 6-week stays at two different farms in the Netherlands through the Netherlands branch of the international WWOOF organization. I lived and worked 25 hours/week on the farms, learning about management, cultivation, and harvesting at both a market production small fruit farm, and a community and subsistence-oriented multifunctional family farm.

• Maintain community garden spaces• Plant and tend to crops to be harvested for FRESH’s CSA (community supported agriculture)program, in which local residents pay what they can for weekly fresh produce• Worked at FRESH’s free produce table open to the public, communicated about available produce• Practiced various gardening/small-scale farming techniques, like trellising, pruning, planting seedsand seedlings, and washing and bundling harvested produce

New Haven, Connecticut, United States

• Monitored C. fumipennis wasp colonies and collected their prey Buprestid beetle specimens withnets in field locations throughout CT• Identified, sorted, pinned, and completed Microsoft Excel data entry for Buprestid beetle speciescollected by the lab and through volunteers• Assisted with forest transects including densiometer reading, groundcover identification for quadratdata, counts of ash trees and seedlings, and ash tree health assessment
