About Jane Scheiber
Hello! I am a humanities teacher at St. Benedict's Prep School, where I teach first and second year high school students history, literature, and art history in interdisciplinary classes. I am passionate about and dedicated to the cultivation of a structured, safe, and exploratory learning environment where students can explore who they are as students and as people. I am also a recent graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, where I studied creative writing and literature. As a student, I completed long-form literature research, focusing primarily on poetry as it negotiates with the tensions of human consciousness versus animal body, and honing in on poets like Anne Carson, Emily Dickinson, Robert Hass, Wallace Stevens, and others. This research focus stems from a larger, artistic interest, and occurs frequently in my own poetic practice. In the past, I have engaged in an assortment of editorial roles, which I talk about more in my Experience section! In my editorial roles, I have been attentive and tenacious, paying particular attention to the overall goal of an artist's work, and to how their work speaks within or outside of established literary/artistic canons. I now look forward to bringing this close attention and understanding to my students and their own research and writing.
