Living each day with gratitude and in service to others. Struggling through the grieving process. (Steve Nimocks, my partner, soul mate, mentor, best-friend, traveler, construction/landscaping project guru, news/politics junkee, humorist and general shinanigans coordinator was diagnosed with ALS in February 2014, then died on December 19, 2015). After 47 years of living with a model of healthful living, his health crisis and demise hit me like a ton of bricks. It seems I have moved beyond the paralyzing grief phase to a plateau of depression, peppered with lack of motivation, energy and initiative. I brought missing Steve terribly, not quite believing that his body was rendered almost useless to him and that he died into this new phase). From somewhere today, I got the energy... to enroll in a grief support group and arranged to talk to a "mindfulness" therapist in San Francisco about beginning therapy. I am very happy that help is on the way. I know I will eventually be ok and find my path to a new life, but now, I just cannot let go of the old one. I had such a blessed life with Steve (I know it now and I knew it then). I know that life will bring a whole new set of circumstances, as wonderful as the last. I, also, know that this god damn grief process takes a long time and it moves in its own time and direction.However, with a great mindful therapist, the support of a group of similarly situated grieving partners and my higher power's grace, the grief can be managed and a new life can get wings.Thank you and much love to my family and friends for all of your support, amazing and generous assistance throughout Steve's illness, celebrating the life he lived and holding me up, feeding me, crying/laughing with me and most importantly giving me hope and love.
