Clackmannanshire Council’s Transformation Directorate leads on the delivery of the Be the Future Programme. This focuses on sustainable inclusive growth, empowering families & communities, and health & wellbeing, in order to support the Council and its partners to achieve their transformation ambitions.My role is supporting the Stirling & Clackmannanshire City Region + Growth Deal including a particular focus on co developing, with the University of Stirling and Forth Valley College, Scotland’s International Environment Centre and the Intergenerational Living Innovation Hub. The CRD investment is centred on scaling and strengthening an innovation community in the heart of Clackmannanshire supporting major challenges including the transition to net zero and an ageing population.

In 2006 I joined my husband’s award winning practice which became SHS Burridge Architects in 2012. Andrew has a natural affinity with materials and the craft of designing buildings which compliments well my interest in building users and the impact of good design. From exquisitely detailed small projects to sophisticated modern offices and scientific laboratories the studio seeks to bring an honesty and materiality to their designs, creating spaces that connect people. Since 2016 I have focused on projects with particular socio-economic challenges and have acted as a Consultant to many third sector organisations. In May 2022 I took up a full time Secondment role with Clackmannanshire Council which is centred around supporting the Stirling & Clackmannanshire City Region & Growth Deal capital investment.

The Asia Scotland Trust was established with the aim of nurturing long standing links between Asia and Scotland. Whilst continuing this fundamental aim of promoting joint heritage there is an equal commitment to building a shared future. The mission therefore is to engage with creative projects that leave a social, environmental and economic impact.The focus of the AST and my role as Development Director during this period was the regeneration of the Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden in Kolkata. The Community Participation Scoping Study, developed with the University of Edinburgh and Neeta Shubhrajit Das Associates was a crucial first analysis and research exercise to determine what a regeneration project of the gardens might entail. The study also provided the necessary exploration and evidence to support a next stage funding application

Architecture And Urban Planning Djcad

For a number of years I led an Honours Year group focusing on the Complexities of the Modern Workplace and as a practitioner I sought to align these student projects with Industry encouraging flexible & technologically advanced working environments. With a background of turmoil in Europe at that time, and social and economic unrest and changing workforce demands, the studio explored how those factors might shape our buildings and cities, seeking to determine the connection between contemporary business practices and urban society and how architecture can mediate that relationship.

Esala

GCDT is a community owned and managed body helping to regenerate Gorebridge in Midlothian, to alleviate the impact of post-industrial decline. My role was to support the Trust with the set up and start-up of their new capital build Community Hub, Gorebridge Beacon. Key skills were communication and consultation, project management, strategic and financial planning. The project was particularly complex as the first Contractor became insolvent part way through the build. Further funding was then needed to appoint a second contractor. Towards the end of their build phase there was an arson attack on the site which caused significant damage and a further year’s delay to the project. There followed a complex piece of work involving the loss adjusters to get the project complete. Engagement with all stakeholders through the process was crucial to achieving a positive outcome.

I set up Bennetts Associates Edinburgh office in late 1994 after joining the practice earlier that year in London. Having begun my career in workplace design with Michael Hopkins & Partners there was a natural fit when I moved to BA and got involved first in the John Menzies’ Wholesale Division on the Richard Meir masterplanned Edinburgh Park and then, the BT Headquarters which followed. Bennetts Associates are recognised as an industry-leading pioneer of sustainability. These award winning projects with relatively narrow floor plates, good levels of daylight and high thermal mass developed the same principles of a pleasant energy efficient building as previous projects by Bennett’s Associates. I spent 11 great years with BA involved in a range of commercial, University and hotel projects pursuing the best environmental, economic and socially sustainable outcomes we could achieve.

After completing my RIBA part 2 in London I was fortunate to join Michael Hopkins and Partners where I then gained my professional qualification in 1990. The practice was regarded as one of the leading British contemporary architectural firms with a consistent and rigorous approach to projects. Working in this environment as a young architect instilled core skills and priorities which I have stayed close to throughout my career; establishing a sense of place, a connection with history, an honesty and materiality in design which brings clarity to the building user.
