Profile bio

About Jane Crompton

I am immensely proud to be a fundraising professional, manager and mentor, currently working for a very special children’s charity - Read for Good. Every day, I know I am using my skills and experience to make a difference to children’s lives. After a degree in History at Cambridge University, my ‘first’ career was in non-fiction illustrated book and magazine publishing. I thoroughly enjoyed the different challenges of editorial, commissioning and management roles within both commercial publishing and the UK government’s official publishing arm.A growing family, career break, voluntary work and a deepening interest in the third sector set me on a new path. I was absolutely up for a fresh challenge, and threw myself into getting as much fundraising training and hands-on charity experience as possible. I completed the Certificate in Fundraising, passing with Distinction, and was soon working with a number of amazing charities, independently or as an Associate Consultant with Wootton George Consulting. All the skills I had developed in publishing - team and project management, budgeting, developing long-term partnerships, assessing large amounts of information, proposal writing, editing for different audiences, and a razor-sharp eye for detail - proved invaluable, especially for grants and trusts fundraising. Over the last eight years, I have been lucky enough to pursue this ‘second’ career in both permanent and consultancy roles, supporting the vital services provided by small, medium and large charities across a range of causes. I particularly love deep-dive research, crafting large proposals and building sustainable, mutually beneficial relationships between funders and their delivery partners. I have raised around £800,000 to date, working part time and often wearing many hats, as outlined below. Indirectly, but perhaps more importantly, I have helped raise much more by training and mentoring several new or early-career fundraisers; over the last few years, this has been one of the most rewarding and inspiring aspects of my role.I very much look forward to connecting and working with you!

Listed skills include Fundraising, Grant Writing, Research, Charitable Trusts, and 12 others.
