About Jane Edwards
I have always been interested in how things work, and interested in travelling and being in the outdoors. The Earth we all live on is the biggest thing at hand, most of it is outdoors, and so it was probably inevitable that I ended up studying geology at University. This lead to my first career at the Geological Survey of Victoria where I worked as a research scientist, driving and walking around the State for years on end, interpreting geological history and making geological maps.Over time, I became more interested in how people work out ‘how things work’. Eventually I was most interested in this, especially the commonalities and differences of learning within and between cultures. This drove a career change into education, and specifically into new ways of teaching and curriculum design. I brought my passion for understanding the natural world into science-teacher education, and explored the act of ‘teaching’ in my doctoral research to understanding how to improve Education for Sustainability. At heart, I am an educator – most passionate about teaching others ‘how to learn’, or how to teach learning. I strongly believe that learning ‘how to learn’ is a passport for enjoying a life filled with curiosity and turning a passion into an exciting and satisfying career, as I have done. When I am not at work I allow my curiosity of the world to lead me to such places as active volcanoes or glacier-covered mountains, and to chat with all sorts of people to learn about their culture. I think that each new experience adds just that little bit more to my next project.
Listed skills include Geology, Higher Education, E Learning, Program Evaluation, and 3 others.
