I repatriated from Africa and joined the Research Center to infuse best practices from my global experiences with our business technology teams. Expanding on our traditional U.S. Government funding strategies, we built commercial partnerships with emerging market industries, increasing multi-sector program management for research awards in aviation, energy systems, and healthcare development.Leveraging my strengths as a servant leader, I transformed the senior team of Business Development managers; rebuilding the disrupted staff, attracting new team members, promoting, and motivating the organization to exceed targets. As a result, the external funding for the Research Center grew 12.3% to $100M and $126M in two years.Through innovative collaboration I worked with the USAID Development Labs to launch their first Private Sector engagement in Bangalore, supporting local scientists on technology solutions for water and energy in India for India. These bold shifts bolstered the Global Research brand and positioned the organization as a trusted advisor in technology partnerships with customers and key opinion leaders, including USAID, the United Nations, and country-specific program offices.

My team and I were selected to join the newly formed team for GE Africa. Together, we pioneered the transformative design of handheld ultrasound for Africa, built implementation teams across sub-Saharan Africa, and instituted public private partnership models, and sales practices to deliver financial growth for healthcare.After identifying advocacy as a key practice for growth, I lobbied for our partnership with the United Nations and became the inaugural private sector partner for the “Every Woman Every Child” alliance. As a progressive thought leader for maternal and infant care, and co-chair of the Medical Device Innovative Working Group, I led the convening and engaging of cross-sector leaders in non-profit, government, the private sector, academia and research to advance global health sustainability efforts.To drive new market sales and generate incremental growth, I worked with our technology and product marketing teams leveraging media, community leaders, NGOs and governments to foster partnerships, and position GE as the innovative solutions partner for maternal and infant care. As a start-up team, we were tasked with identifying funding for our initial strategy, and were awarded over $1M in external funding for our field-based R&D.

The launch of GE’s Healthymagination strategy set the stage for the business to deliver better healthcare for all. The barrier to meeting this commitment was the need for the strategy to serve the billions of people at the base of the pyramid who lacked access to affordable, quality healthcare. As the Director of Global Health, I led the team and designed a rural health business strategy for the $6B investment, fulfilling the pledge to better healthcare through innovative technology solutions, advocacy, and thought leadership in the emerging markets of India, Asia and Africa. The design of mission-based public-private partnerships with Grameen Bank, The Gates Foundation, BRAC, and Ifakara Health Institute drove new product introduction, task-shifted training development and delivery, and micro-loan financial entrepreneurship models for women.

As the Ambassador for GE’s $30M, Corporate Social Responsibility program: Developing Health Globally™, I championed initiatives to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes, increased product sustainability, and directed all operational efforts in Africa for healthcare, energy, and water solutions. Leading a company-wide volunteer staff, the team and I directed and aligned technology training and and product service needs. We also established metric guidelines for the effective use of the donated products, and ensured a positive impact to healthcare needs across 8 countries, more than 36 district hospitals, and over 100 health centers.My passionate servant leadership and keen knowledge of healthcare solutions in the disparate market allowed for the overall impact of more than 6 million lives throughout the program implementation, training over 400 physicians in trauma and emergency obstetrics, as well as donating over 4,700 units of equipment and supplies.

Over this 6-year period, I held various leadership roles and a P&L which grew in size up to $62M across the business unit, including 300 hospital customers, and a field-based team of more than 75 engineers tasked with meeting equipment service and compliance. Operationally, I implemented initiatives to build revenue and aligned field practices with business goals, reduced outstanding debt by $5.6M via workmanship with the collections team, and delivered $1.16M over plan 2004/2005, exceeding revenue goals and reducing cost.
