Designing sustainable houses that connect our clients to this place we call home never gets old. I love working with people ready to create the house of their dreams, and enjoy thinking through everything from the ideal room that captures the views, to finding the perfect tile for the bathroom. For over 35 years, I’ve been working with my husband, Michael Frederick, creating award winning houses in the hot, humid lowcountry of South Carolina. We are passionate about sustainability and reducing the impact our houses have on the environment. We’re participants in the AIA’s 2030 Commitment and meet the goal most years. My other passion is cooking and entertaining, which is very relatable to designing the perfect house. I love planning the meal by determining what recipes go together in a pleasing way. Continuing the process by looking for the best ingredients and assembling them to showcase their flavors. Finally, sharing all my hard work and cooking expertise with friends and family for their enjoyment.In 2023, I was awarded the AIA South Carolina Medal of Distinction, the highest award given by the chapter. I was also the first woman to receive the Medal.I also believe it is important to give back and everyone on our team actively supports a variety of organizations, both personal and professional. Locally we support the Open Land Trust, Coastal Conservation League, The Spanish Moss Trail, and Historic Beaufort Foundation. It is also a big part of what led me to become the 2020 President of the American Institute of Architects.
