As a journalist with over 25 years of experience-first in New York, then in Seattle--I've written about business and real estate for dozens of national and local publications (WSJ, Seattle Times, Reuters, Money, etc.) penned the book Rent Vs. Own (Chronicle Books, 2012), and tackled complex writing projects for corporate clients (Zillow, Expedia). I'm also a creative writer who writes fiction and literary nonfiction, which is what I've supported by writing articles, cover stories, features, and copy for clients who hire me to make topics ranging from asset-backed securities to single-tenant net leased commercial real estate, from portfolio rebalancing to mortgage finance, from mutual funds to IRS audits, comprehensible to layperson audiences. In 2013 I merged all my interests and abilities into one single hands-on project that is a labor of love: I bought a former elementary school near Mt. Rainier and, working with others, converted it into a multi-disciplinary artists' residency called Mineral School. In 2020, barring coronavirus postponement till 2021, Mineral School will enter its sixth summer. I have volunteer-directed the program since its inception, collaborating with a long list of volunteers (many of whom are program alums).
