Dairy Breeding Programme 2014 Procurement Advisor My main role within NCBC was talking with farmers on the phone about the Dairy Breeding Programme of 2014. I was contracting bull calves to be genotyped on behalf of NCBC and my main goal was to contact famers who were of greater interest and to ensure they sent hair samples to be tested. The breeding programme focused on EBI of calves and their parents so I learnt a lot about genomics very quickly from working here. I would answer calls from farmers wondering about the status of samples sent in, queries about the programme in general and the process of selection and purchase of bull calves. By the time the programme closed, I had built up a strong relationship with famers from all over Ireland and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. Planned Pregnancy Program CoordinatorWhen the Dairy Breeding Programme for 2014 finished, I was given the role of Coordinator of the Planned Pregnancy Programme. This Programme was put in place to ensure the right bull was used on a selected cow from our massive 32,000 herd file. It was a big undertaking that required multi-tasking, coordinating AI men, delivery men and farmers nationwide. I was required to organise the delivery of 1,000 frozen straws to 200 farmers all over Ireland, which entailed drawing up a route for delivery men, ensuring that the correct orders were received by the semen store, checked each order prior to it leaving the depot and contacted all farmers involved to ensure they received the straws promptly and in good condition. The project was completed ahead of schedule and all orders were received on farms within a week. I learnt from this project that multi-tasking is no problem for me, and I have a good rapport with people, especially the farming community.

I was part of an energetic, hard working team whose responsibilities included maximizing customer satisfaction and bringing profound comfort, fun, color and innovation to the world’s feet. Although my time in this position was short lived, I gained invaluable experience in helping with customers and greatly improving my customer service skills.When the store would be bustling and busy we would work hard as a team to ensure all customers were looked after and cared for. At quieter times of the day, when there would be less members of staff working, I learnt how to work on my own initiative, and to balance more tasks between less people.
