About Janeil Engelstad

Janeil Engelstad’s work is guided by the following question: What do I do in the world that makes a generative and positive contribution to people and the planet? Intentional, creative action that align Spirit, Passion and Purpose underpins her work and the larger construct of envisioning and helping to create a world where those traditionally excluded gain agency and access. • Make Art With Purpose
    Founder And Director
Make Art With Purpose 2010 - Present
MAP - Make Art With Purpose is an innovative organization that produces international projects, and partners with artists and organizations who are working to create equity throughout our society, often producing projects that create positive social and environmental change. MAP exists to advance an alternative model for art making that is rooted in consciousness and social justice, is not bound by, (but does necessarily exclude), the museum and gallery system, is more expansive than individual expression, and includes ideas, knowledge and cultural experience that has historically been underrepresented or undervalues. MAP projects include communities as partners in the production of the work, directly engage the audience to participate beyond the role of passive observer and can also involve creative collaboration from government, NGOs and other partners. Often providing solutions to some of the world’s most critical problems, these projects affirm the meaningful role that artists play in the larger world.
