I worked full-time (3.5 years) to PRN at a CCRC where I treated short-term rehab patients, outpatients, home health patients and long-term patients. The patients reside in the care center, rehab unit, assisted living, independent living, or in the community. I was awarded Associate of the Month in December 2021. I was nominated by the regional VP.I was the group & concurrent therapy champion and encouraged my team/coworkers to participate in these activities to help improve patient’s quality of life.I treated patients with hip replacements/ORIF, knee replacements, heart conditions, CVAs, Parkinson’s disease, MS, Cerebral Palsy, Huntington’s disease, seizures, spinal fractures, amputations & prosthetics, multiple different braces including: TLSO brace, knee immobilizers, walking boots, etc), multiple different weight bearing status levels (TTWB for example), Dementia/Alzheimers and more. This job provided a great opportunity to treat patients in many different settings.I treated patients with the ACP and Chattanooga modality machines to help improve patient’s quality of life. I also utilized the VirtuSense machine to analyze gait abnormalities to discuss and compare weekly improvements/regressions with patients. The machine assessed fall risk in patients, unique to what devices they may or may not use. I also had my patients using the Sensor Balance machine to challenge patient’s balance while having them play fun, mentally and physically exercise games.I consistently communicated with patients, nursing staff, therapy staff, nurse practitioners and physicians regarding patient care. I documented point of service to improve productivity. I utilized Net Health (formerly Rehab Optima) and Therapy Sync for Home Health documentation through partner company Amber Care Home Health.

I was the first Lead Therapist/Director of Rehabilitation for the Outpatient setting of the Westerwood CCRC in the Independent Living and Home Health sections. This was a new, start-up position. I managed the therapy team to evaluate, treat and discharge the caseload in all settings. I presented a monthly speech on health and wellness topics. I treated a variety of patients, including ones with: single and bilateral LE amputations/prosthetics, CVA, CHF, dementia, Alzheimer’s, COPD, stroke, cancer, ORIF, hip replacements, schizophrenia, seizure precautions, anxiety, spine fractures, bed sores, Parkinson’s, autism, TBI, wounds (wound vac), catheters, colostomy bags, vision impairments (legally blind), hearing impairments (required white board for communication), LE contractures, and different weight bearing statuses (both LE and UE). I treated patients that treat speak other languages (Spanish, French, Korean, Vietnamese, Haitian Creole), including some patients from different countries. I treated patients using ACP modalities including: diathermy, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation. Rehab Optima was used for documentation. Teamwork was key with constant interaction required between all types of therapy staff, nursing, facility workers, and doctors. I performed many in-home assessments with the occupational therapist to determine what barriers a patient had prior to returning home and what recommendations therapy stated to improve for the patient’s safety.*One part of this job was my experience with amputees. I worked with multiple amputees, specifically with one patient from before the shrinker/prosthetic to training with the patient using the prosthetic every day. That patient was functioning well enough to leave the facility and live independently. I was in contact with the prosthetist and two amputees, Todd Schaffhauser and Dennis Oehler regarding the patient’s therapy and prosthetic training. Todd and Dennis are two Paraolympic Gold Medalists who have mentored over 20,000 amputees worldwide.

If other Encore Rehabilitation facilities needed PTA help, I traveled to a surrounding SNF (Woodland Country Manor of Somerville, OH and Pristine Senior Living of Middletown, OH) and to help treat patients there. At this facility, I treated an outpatient with low back pain as well. I treated patients with ACP and Genesis modalities. I utilized Rehab Optima for documentation

In my third and final clinical rotation as a student physical therapist assistant (SPTA), I was at the Briarwood Village CCRC. I treated patients with Parkinson's, strokes (CVA), muscle weakness, dementia/Alzheimer's, cancer, TKR/THR, and more. I had a handful of outpatients that I treated as well at this facility. Some interventions I utilized were: PNF, modalities, manual techniques, and more. I used Rehab Optima as the documentation program at this facility. I treated patients with modalities using ACP. At this facility, I treated outpatients with physical therapy as well.

My second clinical was at a skilled nursing facility (SNF) and is called Rest Haven, which is a part of the Vancrest Health Care Center. In the final weeks here, I consistently met the productivity rate at this facility! I treated many different kinds of patients, for example: AKA/BKA, strokes, THR, TKR, generalized weakness patients, and much more! I had a positive working experience at Rest Haven. I used Rehab Optima as the documentation program at this facility.

I scanned student documents into the computer and worked the front desk when the office assistant was at lunch, sick, or busy. I answered phone calls and answered student questions about financial aid.
