About Jane Mackenzie

Jane has a great passion for education, a wealth of knowledge and over twenty-five years’ experience teaching, training and managing at all levels in the public and private sectors.With both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in education, Jane has worked in the education sector for the past 25 years, across HE, FE, Work Based Learning, and Adult Community Learning, as well as specialist educational settings.Through her various roles, she has been involved in change management and staff development and has made many improvements to meet the strategic objectives within these organisations. Jane has also trained instructors, and mentored teams of tutors within the fitness industry, as well as presenting at a national level at many fitness events. Jane’s educational ethos is to enthuse and motivate individuals and teams to help them reach their full potential through training and mentoring. She believes that all companies can benefit greatly from excellent staff training and development.In 2017 she has returned to the fitness industry and works part-time as a course developer, tutor, IQA and assessor for Future Fit Training (UKActive's "Training Provider of the Year" 2016/17). The rest of my time is spent improving the health of as many people as she can through her own company Jane’s Health and Fitness - teaching Pilates, aerobics, aqua, and Young at Heart classes, as well as working with students with disabilities. Health at work and at home is really important and she sees it as a privilege to be able to make a positive difference for so many people. We all want to be fitter and in good health into our old age.It is with this unique background of business management, and sports and fitness she is able to fully understand the needs within a business to develop the wellbeing of the staff within your organisation as well as supporting individuals and groups in classes.

We also offer specific needs led training workshops, online and face to face, and several forums, network events and a conference to share good practice, which I help plan and deliver. As part of these events I have delivered regular online webinars to demonstrate free tools and conferencing systems. Another key aspect of my role is to research the current innovative changes within education and technology and share this with our providers. Part of the role involves analyzing their current practices across the whole organisation using a diagnostic tool, and developing an implementation strategy to meet their objectives. These improvements are in line with Ofsted requirements and the Common Inspection Framework (CIF). I have made good use of my background in health and safety and was the RSC SE lead person for advice on e-safety and digital responsibility at a national level, specializing in the Work Based Learning sector. .

Here I developed their quality management systems, health and safety procedures and internal verification processes, and led the planning and preparation for an Ofsted inspection, enabling them to gain a highly positive monitoring report outcome. We also gained direct claim status from 6 different awarding bodies, due to the high standard of assessing and verifying. This role included initiating an induction, and CPD training program for staff and delivering training such as Health and Safety, Equality and Diversity, CIF updates, and assessor training. Also I was the Health and Safety Officer and Child Protection, Designated Child Protection Officer.

    As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT) I am involved with the multi-disciplinary decision-making process and a member of the Clinical Governance, Health and Safety and Audit Committee. All members of the SMT were part of the on call, out of hours, rota to take responsibility for the hospital. The team reported directly to the Hospital Director. Within the above teams and as part of Learning Support Services I implemented all the health and safety procedures/training and complete the risk assessments to manage the complex needs of patients both internally and within a community setting. A key part of my duties included implementing the policies and procedures set out in the Health Care Standards, the Mental Health Act and those of the company itself. I reported to my company directors every three months on the progress of the department. Another important part of my role was to represent our residents in their internal and external Care Plan Assessment meetings. These were conducted to monitor and re-evaluate the progress of our patient’s treatment plans and aims of admission.

    In my previous role as Course Leader and Senior Lecturer at South Kent College (SKC), I coordinated and taught on vocational courses, both mainstream and specialist. Part of my role was to cost, develop, promoting, recruiting staff and implement a series of new part-time fitness courses. The part-time courses were delivered as intensive courses and distance learning. These courses developed to gain the self certification status from the awarding body. I also organised and taught a wide variety of sports and fitness activities for students with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. Sports taught included basketball, badminton, volleyball, table tennis, football, Boccia, swimming, skiing, rounders, fitness classes and gym sessions. Events included special Sports Days for my students on their own, as well as inter-college sports days, during which they were able to compete successfully alongside mainstream students. Within the ASDAN and FE Awards I was Course Leader for the Into Work course. This course supported students to develop their skills to go into a work environment, whilst being supported through the college. Within the ASDAN Award I taught several modules related to independent living skills.
