Jan Engle received her BS in Pharmacy from Rutgers University in New Jersey and her PharmD from the University of Illinois. She served as chief resident and completed an advanced residency in ambulatory care and emergency medicine. Dr. Engle served as clinical pharmacy coordinator, residency director and was a clinical pharmacist for the ambulatory care services at the Veterans Affairs West Side Medical Center. She has served as a voting member of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Nonprescription Drug Advisory Committee and has served as the Chair of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education International Commission. She is a past president of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) and served on the Board of Trustees for 10 years. Dr. Engle was named a Fellow of the APhA Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management in 1994. In 2001, Dr. Engle received the APhA Distinguished Achievement Award for Clinical/Pharmacotherapeutic Practice. In 2010, Dr Engle was elected as a Distinguished Practitioner in the National Academies of Practice in Pharmacy. Dr. Engle has served as a medical expert on a number of pharmacy and medical issues. She has been interviewed by numerous television stations, newspapers, radio stations and magazines. Currently, she is the Executive Director of the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education. In the past, she served in a variety of roles at UIC College of Pharmacy including Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Executive Associate Dean, Head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Senior Associate Dean for Professional and International Affairs. Dr. Engle has also practiced in community, hospital, pharmacy directed ambulatory clinic and long term care settings.Specialties: Non-prescription drugs, home diagnostics and self-care, community and ambulatory care, international pharmacy practice with a focus in Southeast Asia, pharmacy education, accreditation and quality assurance/improvement and academic administration
