I manage a team of six communications and government relations staff to promote EECA's programmes, handle media and coordinate with the Minister's office. We use media releases, opinion pieces, articles, social media, speeches and events to provide information on energy efficiency and renewable energy to consumers and businesses. The government relations staff provide advice to the Minister and coordinate our activities across other relevant government agencies.

I manage the communications and marketing functions at EECA, a New Zealand government agency tasked with promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy. My team looks after the Energywise, EECA and EECA Business brands, runs campaigns to promote awareness, understanding and behaviour change, and provides insights and advice to ensure energy efficiency programmes for the residential, business, government and transport markets are well targeted and effective.

Our team ensures that EECA investigates, designs and delivers energy efficiency and renewable programmes that clearly benefit New Zealand. We identify strategic energy use opportunities and strategic priorities and provide stimulation for the discussions which form EECA’s position, and guide investments in market intervention.

I provide comms support for EECA programmes (currently business), proactive and reactive media management, corporate communications in the form of CEO speeches, opinion pieces, and advice on risk management.

Worked for Hon. David Parker and liaised with media on the portfolios of energy, climate change, land information and state services.

General reporting, including the transport round for most of this time. Was a member of the Election Unit in 2005. Produced Summer Report for two summers. Reported on the anniversary of the Asia Boxing Day Tsunami in Sri Lanka, and undertook a study of transport congestion charging in UK/Europe. In 2006 worked as producer on Morning Report.

Reporting for the Nelson Mail included a year working at the Motueka Golden Bay News, and a year as environment and Tasman District Council reporter based in Nelson.
