I drafted press releases and press advisories and organised press briefings and conferences.I also provide international media with legal documents.The international atmosphere amongst both staff members and journalists made for a stimulating and enriching workplace. Being closely involved in world events (the arrest, trial and death of Slobodan Milosevic, for example) was an exhilirating experience. -
Trial ManagerIcty Sep 1998 - Aug 2002I provided the logistical support of all aspects related to bringing witness to the ICTY to testify. This included ensuring that all their accommodation, financial, protection and support needs were met.Working closely with these witnesses, many of whom were in The Hague to testify about the unimaginable horrors they went through during the war in the formal Yugoslavia, was an inspiring experience. Many of them showed an increadible strength of character in testifying against their former assailants and often had to overcome great physical, psychological and practical barriers just to get to the Netherlands.

Data AnalystIcty Sep 1996 - Jan 1998The Hague Area, NetherlandsI was responsible for analysing witness statements and entering the details into a database for use by prosecution lawyers.On a practical level this work demanded a fine anaytical eye for detail. Emotionally and psychologically it demanded the ability to take distance from the horrors described in many of the statements. Many of the things I read were true horror stories and it was at times difficult to image one human being doing those things to another. Yet the the very fact that the ICTY existed and that many of the staff there came from the former Yugoslavia and were working together harmoniously and with other international staff once more confirmed my conviction that by getting to know each other we can shake off our prejudices.
