In this role I headed up the Thomas & Mercer crime, thriller and mystery imprint - publishing bestselling authors including Teresa Driscoll, Caroline Mitchell, John Marrs and TE Kinsey.

After seven years of working in full-time client-side employment, I went freelance to use my skills to support charities and small businesses. Working with designers and developers, and consulting user experience and search specialists, I managed projects end-to-end and gained experience in new sectors. Clients included Sense, the leading charity for deafblind people, a local charity supporting those facing crisis pregnancy (www.crosswaypregnancy.org.uk), digital content agencies, and St Stephen's Twickenham, a large church in south west London where I worked on a brand and communications project.

While freelancing I spent four months running the digital team for the leading charity for deafblind people. During this time I worked on a content strategy which was taken on at senior management level, redesigned the Sense newsletters and reshaped the email marketing strategy, launched campaign emails using e-activist software, and oversaw the digital element of a major fundraising campaign.

In this role I was responsible for the UpMyStreet website, managing a team covering content strategy & management; design & usability; editorial; email, online marketing and SEO; and research & analysis. Highlights include implementing a high-performing email marketing campaign which saw opens of over 40%; running popular surveys which exceeded 10K responses in days and got me on breakfast radio shows; speccing and managing the build of a custom CMS; and successfully implementing and nurturing social networking tools on the website.

In almost four years at one of the original dotcoms, during a heyday of creativity, innovation and growth, I learnt the basics as a digital copywriter and then worked my way through managing content, campaigns, channels, and a team. I was promoted twice and developed strong creative skills, working with designers and developers from concept to completion on in-house campaigns and campaigns for major clients including Toblerone, Volvo and Xbox. I also gained valuable experience in digital strategy, and knowledge of the lifestyle and music industries.
