Janet McCord, PhD, FT has been a thanatologist and suicidologist for almost 30 years, and a death educator for over 16 years. She developed a Master of Science program at a small college in 2009 and retired from that position in May 2021. She launched a new MS in Thanatology program at Edgewood College in Madison, WI Fall 2022! Among other publications in thanatology, Dr. McCord is lead author of Chapter 18: Death Education in the ADEC Handbook of Thanatology, 3rd Edition, edited by Helen Chapple and Heather Servaty-Seib, published in 2021. She is a member of the International Work Group in Death, Dying and Bereavement and looks forward to the 2025 IWG meeting in Perth, Australia. Her research interests include global and cultural perspectives of trauma, dying, death, grief, and loss; and expressions of dying, death, and grief in literature and the arts. She is conducting ethnographic research on the burial and mourning customs of the BaGanda and Acholi people in Uganda.In her spare time she likes to work in her garden and work with her Appaloosa horse, "Blu."
