Janet (Severance) Hahn, Ph.D.I lead the Western Michigan University Healthcare Services and Sciences Program and the Long-Term Care Administration minor. In this role I conduct coordinate and teach course and lead research about the quality of health care services. I study care decision-making, compliance and ethics, health care quality, community-based interventions and health disparities related to dementia.While Senior Outcomes Research Manager at Spectrum Health, I evaluated community health programs for the underserved. Under my leadership, the evaluation team prepared evaluation plans, assisted with data collection, entered data, analyzed data and reported the results. I also supported the Healthier Communities department in seeking grant funding and publishing articles.Previously, I was an assistant professor in the Physician Assistant Program at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, IL where I lectured on geriatrics, research, writing and social psychological aspects of medicine. While there, I studied culture change in Illinois nursing homes. I also served as the coordinator of the Midwestern Geriatric Education Center.I worked at the Joint Commission from 1996 to 2002 focusing first on accreditation education and then developing survey process guidelines and standards in the Joint Commission Research Division. In addition, I was a corporate performance improvement facilitator for the Joint Commission. My career has focused on many aspects of health, evaluation and aging. I taught numerous undergraduate gerontology and sociology courses and conducted health services research in state, county, university and VA Medical Center settings.
