While on a gap year I worked for the mountain operations department at Big Sky resort in Montana! The job was multifaceted – much of the work was physical labor and mechanics, but once the resort opened each day the focus shifted towards guest services and hospitality. On a mechanical front, I maintained safety, cleanliness, and functionality of lifts; performed snow work such as shoveling, raking, ice chipping, etc. after heavy weather to maintain safe conditions on and around lifts; and fixed minor malfunctions with lift machinery and held extensive knowledge of lift mechanics and operation. In terms of guest services I assisted guests loading and unloading the lift, greeted guests as they arrived or departed from the lift, and answered questions about the resort, mountain terrain, etc.

In the Summer after my senior year of high school, I worked as the crew coach at Camp Mowglis, a small all-boys summer camp in New Hampshire. In addition to regular camp counselor responsibilities (i.e. leading activities, ensuring the safety of all campers, etc.), I ran the camp's extensive rowing program. I coached 12-15-year-old boys at all experience levels to learn and master the sport of rowing. The summer culminates in a regatta, which I planned and facilitated along with the help of other waterfront staff.
