Mts/Component Engineer
Managed all aspects of component use including; initial selection, PCN reviews, cost and risk reduction, production shortage resolution, Last Time Buy (LTB) avoidance / coordination and ROHS compliance efforts.Managed AVL and BOM reviews for more than 50 circuit designs across 9 product releases and two design locations. All releases completed on time through proactive and organized efforts.Procured samples, datasheets and vendor contact information to support designers with new or current designs. Set up new components in internal component database.Identified and implemented cost reductions resulting in more than $20M savings since 1999 as both a cost reduction team leader and team member.Located alternate components or sources that resulted in both significantly reduced Purchase Price Variance (PPV) costs (>$100K in 2010) and facilitated continued production.Performed Beta testing for multiple component IT projects (PCN distribution, component database, etc) offering both feedback and enhancement requests for improved efficiency.Increased designer use of strategic vendors by coordinating in-house seminars and developing strong relationships with those vendors.Developed a BOM review process that helped avoid re-use of problematic components and facilitated consolidation of discrete components for more efficient production kitting.Resolved a variety of component issues for product engineers and EMS team during New Product Introduction (NPI) phase or in standard production (availability, performance, etc.).Developed circuit pack level reliability estimates used by customers for determining stocking of spares and as baseline for product quality metrics (actual vs. predicted return rates).Submitted all product specific component change requests through Agile, including changes related to ROHS compliance to keep AVL current.Coordinated Failure Mode analysis requests with vendors, product engineers and EMS team to resolve field and lab issues.
