As the Acting Director of Health Equity and Branch Chief at NIH's All of Us Research Program, I lead strategic initiatives to advance health equity, supervise a dynamic team, and drive the implementation of comprehensive plans to advance health equity research to reduce health disparities and promote diversity in biomedical research.

As Program Director for Health Equity for the All of Us Research Program, I provide programmatic and scientific expertise in the development and implementation of multilevel translational strategies to improve equity in precision medicine. My research interests include understanding and addressing the structural and institutional contexts and processes that impact the equitable delivery of quality care and health outcomes, especially for populations experiencing health and healthcare disparities.

My scientific and programmatic interests are centered on advancing the science of health equity and improving cancer care delivery for health disparity populations. As Program Director, I lead a research program focused on promoting multilevel interventions that mitigate the effects of care fragmentation, especially for underserved populations, and evaluating the impact of national policies on the equitable delivery of high-quality and cost-effective care across diverse populations. I also currently lead several projects on understanding social determinants of health within the context of cancer care delivery.

My research focuses on using the SEER-Medicare linked data to examine patterns of multidisciplinary cancer care (MCC), identifying the multilevel (i.e., patient, neighborhood, provider, and health system) factors associated with receipt of MCC, and evaluating the association between MCC and receipt of national recommended treatment and surveillance guidelines. I also work on projects related to addressing social determinants of health in cancer care delivery.

My dissertation research focused on assessing racial/ethnic disparities in colorectal cancer (CRC) postoperative care (surveillance) and recurrence using the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results – Medicare linked database.

As a Research Associate in the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement at the Fred Hutch, I assisted in the evaluation of cancer prevention programs and interventions, disseminated cancer-related education and information, assisted and mentored organizations with grant-writing for the Academic – Community Organization Grant applications, as well as mentored Summer Undergraduate Research Program students.

I was the National Cancer Institute's National Outreach Network (NON) Community Health Educator (CHE) under the Comprehensive Partnerships to Advance Cancer Health Equity (CPACHE): New Mexico State University and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center for five years. As the NON CHE, I built and sustained a network for cancer education, outreach, and research dissemination to reduce the disease and disability faced by communities in New Mexico. I established an extensive collaborative network in the state to ensure the dissemination of evidence-based information and education materials on cancer prevention and treatment, including clinical trials.
