I was a graduate research assistant working at the eHeart Lab at Carnegie Mellon University's Human-Computer Interaction Institute researching how VR workspaces can be designed to augment group collaboration. I was also a co-lead for the literature review team, studying the social psychology behind how we interact and collaborate with others in virtual spaces. Additionally, I was a member of the prototyping team, creating VR environments in Unity.

I was an undergraduate research assistant for Professor Haiyi Zhu's HCI research team. Spring 2020: The majority of my work focused on the Allegheny Family Screening Tool (AFST), a predictive risk modeling tool for child welfare call screening decisions. I created UI mockups and simple HTML/CSS pages for our interactive site of the model, collected feedback and sentiment from various user groups regarding the AFST, and helped create experimental interview material for participants to judge the fairness of the AFST model.I also collected data to study how rideshare drivers seek support via online peer networks by doing content analysis on what challenges rideshare drivers are facing and how they cope with current challenges during COVID-19.Fall 2020: We worked with stakeholders such as social workers, supervisors, and community members to help mitigate biases and disparities for a risk-stratification tool intended to aid in child maltreatment referrals. My tasks included an informal literature review on fairness preferences across different domains (such as hiring contexts, the criminal justice system, and child welfare), proofreading and creating material for interviewing research participants, and organizing agendas and notes for our stakeholder research.

I independently built a new, user-facing feature into Windows Search Box intended to increase Bing.com Daily Active Users (DAU). I also reduced lag time upon first load of Windows Search Box for this feature by designing and implementing a new caching mechanism. For the Microsoft Hackathon, I helped build a new, client-side feature for users for Windows Search Box. [Typescript, React, C#, HTML/CSS]

I taught computer science and the fundamentals of programming to kids ages 8-18 at Juni Learning, which provides weekly private online coding classes in block-based programming, Python, and Java. As the Carnegie Mellon University Campus Ambassador, I also hosted meetups for Juni Learning instructors at CMU and provided support and mentorship for new instructors.

As a software engineering intern, I enhanced a feature to book business trips for other users in ASP.NET C#, designed a Python web scraper using the BeautifulSoup library to retrieve cheap airfares, created high-fidelity front-end site mockups in AngularJS and HTML/CSS to demonstrate key site features, and improved error and debug logging across the entire application by including additional email and company user context in XML.
