My professional journey has taken me through diverse fields, each contributing to my growth and adaptability. Starting with IT coordination at Microserve after graduating from Uvic, I then embarked on a transformative experience as an English Language Instructor in Japan. Embracing an older-fashioned curriculum in a semi-rural setting, I gained cultural insights that continue to resonate with me. Returning to Canada, I joined Shaw Communications and learned a sales mindset before diving into the hospitality industry. My roles at Best Western Plus and Hampton Inn & Suites saw me rise through the ranks, eventually leading large teams and navigating the challenges of COVID-19. As part of the opening team at Hampton, I had the privilege of working alongside some very talented leaders who helped me to continue to develop my mindset and approach for my own team and work, and in turn I prioritized mentorship and team care. Currently, as an Operations Assistant/Concierge at Kelowna Concierge, I contribute to providing shuttle transportation services and evolving office procedures for efficiency. My career reflects a blend of leadership, excellence, and a passion for connecting with people across various fields and cultures.

Assistant Language TeacherJapan Exchange And Teaching Program(Me) (Jet) Jan 2016 - Aug 2017Tsuruga-Shi, Fukui-Ken, JapanIn a role that was both challenging and rewarding, I team-taught approximately 20 English classes per week, each with an average of 30 students, in a prefecture with an older-fashioned English curriculum.Teaching & Engagement: Created an engaging classroom environment, balancing the local curriculum with my insights into language learning psychology. Focused on authentic English, while respecting the emphasis on American English.Cultural Advisor: Served as a Canadian and Western cultural and English language advisor for all Japanese faculty and students, providing a unique perspective.Lesson Planning & Implementation: Collaborated with department members to develop and implement lesson plans and materials that met curriculum guidelines for each grade and learning level.Assessment & Reporting: Conducted team-teaching reports, self-assessments with my supervisor, lesson quality evaluations, and reported periodically to the Board of Education.Professional Development: Participated in skills development conferences, English-learning oriented community activities, and camps. The experience was both frustrating and humbling, as I navigated differences in teaching philosophy and an older style of curriculum. I found joy in working with the students and infusing my lessons with current English from my Canadian perspective.Living and working in a semi-rural Japanese city, where English alone was not sufficient, provided an immersion experience that continues to impact me deeply. Gaining the perspective of another culture was not easy, but the insights and understanding I acquired continue to enrich my personal and professional life to this day. -
