I am a Software Engineer with 3+ years of backend development experience, 5+ years of programming and automation experience, an interest in Kubernetes, Docker and other scaling technologies, and a passion for code quality.For the past 1+ year I've been working for a small company called EcoMetrix Solutions Group, developing their Ecosystem Intelligence platform. I have been busy:- Reduced elapsed time of a complex operation by more than order of magnitude (99%) by creating a FastAPI microservice to asynchronously run the operation. - Boosted production releases 50% and reduced bug reports by 25% by implementing standardized Agile practices, developing CI/CD pipelines in Github Actions, and introduced unit testing across the tech stack. - Fixing bugs on the frontend, backend, and mobile parts of the platform and optimizing database queries. I started in QA at Globality, but soon moved into software development. In the process I achieved the following:- Completed a collaborative project to incrementally improve data reliability and optimize a complex Kafka Streams topology in Java. This reduced join operations by 90% and almost eliminated data errors.- Planned and implemented the migration of a Javascript microservice to a persistent Kafka Streams data store, with 8x performance improvement.I've taken an unconventional path to my career in software development. In my first career, I worked as a wildlife technician, mostly collecting radio telemetry data on non-game species. In my free time, I began learning to code in Python and fell in love with programming. In 2017, I earned my Master's Degree in Computer Science. After grad school, I held mostly test automation roles, during which I learned a lot about software engineering concepts seldom taught in CS programs, things like version control, dependency injection, how to apply design patterns, the dangers of over-optimization, and how to build software with maintenance in mind. Going forward, I am looking for roles that allow me to broaden my software development experience. My current interests are:- DevOps: I am especially interested in workflow automation, CI/CD, and containerization tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and CircleCI.- Backend Development: I am experienced in Java, Python, C#, and Kafka Streams, but I love learning new tools and technologies. - Software engineering roles in Natural Resources and related industries.
