Skilled Home Visits, Intermittent Care (2-4 hours), Private Duty (shifts); including physical assessment, vital signs, skin & wound care, diabetes management/monitoring & insulin administration, assess/report change of status, regulatory Bowel programs, review & update 485/Plans of Care and MARs.

Conduct inmate physicals/screenings for trustee consideration, administer PPD's, draw blood; evaluate inmate medical needs; place inmates on safety watches or medical observation ad needed in a local jail system. Refer inmates for mental health services, orient inmates how to request getting placed on doctor or nurse sick call; respond to facility medical emergency calls, assess inmates in medical &/or safety isolation, participate in inmate intake/medical screening during booking process; administer medications as needed.

Served as Assistant Director of Nursing [ADON] since June 2014 to July 3, 2015. Previously served Westerville Campus as the Nursing Skills Lab Manager for 2.5 years, prior to this promotion. Report directly to the Director of Nursing; assist in managing the PN and ADN Nursing Programs. Includes but is not limited to teaching, providing clinical experience to both PN and ADN students. Taught didactic and lab portion for three [3] primary courses: Nursing Fundamentals, Nursing Concepts and Nutrition for all PN - Term 1 students, every term. Assisted other course faculty to obtain needed materials, texts, exams. Developed quizzes and exams from course content and test banks available, modifed exam language to be universally applied and not culturally biased. Graded assignments and entered grades and attendance. Assisted nursing program's owner as well as the part-time Program Administrator hired, to provide the majority of administrative tasks required. Provided program and education oversight for students, courses and faculty; led committees, utilized and maintained nursing skills lab. Maintained and assisted updating student records, maintained student transcripts each term. Addressed student, faculty and other conduct issues as needed. On-call 24/7, opened doors by 07:00-07:30 am dailiy Monday-Friday, closed school in pm, ultimately ended up working 16-20 hour days and often included week-ends.

Worked full-time as a visiting home health nurse. Worked with patients in their home or any other setting [ECF, Group Home, Work] as assigned. Provided teaching, medication administration and set-up to maintain home independence; diabetes monitoring or any other care needed as assigned; along with required documentation. Also provided home health care to assigned patient 4 days a week, assisting quadriplegic maintain variety of health needs and yet be independent in the home. Assisted Case Managers do patient return/intake assessments when discharged from hospital admission, on emergency bases as assigned.

Clinical instructor for RN to BSN program for each RN to BSN course with a clinical component, at The Ohio State University-College of Nursing, monitored online comunication board postings required for each course every quarter. Provided feedback to students for their course projects. Provided clinical site visitation for student & preceptor for each student at every clinical site for an assigned group of clinical students each quarter; ranging from 10 clinical students to more than 20 students one term. Traveled around the State of Ohio to visit students and their clinical preceptors at many clinical sites since many students were distance students: Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Toledo, Archibold, Zanesville, Newark, Delaware, Marion, Mansfield, Wooster. Also coure head and lectured for the Cultural Competence in Health Care course for all 3rd year traditional BSN nursing students.

Began as a new missionary-nurse, became Health Services Director in 5 months. Supervised all health activities with the Project Amazon Mission [PAZ]. Coordinated and conducted rural clinics in remote villages with teams that provided basic medical & dental care & gave health teaching in Portuguese to thousands of villagers in the Brazilian Amazon Basin; including supervision of international health teams, with health professionals from all of Brazil & assistance from Mission Aviation Fellowship [MAF/Asas de Socorro]. Obtained medical, dental and medication supplies for these clinics. Submitted annual grant proposal to Christoffel-Blindenmission [CBM], to purchase eye care supplies, eye surgery materials, and basic health care supplies and medications. Helped develop and maintain Social Justice Ministry's patient discount & referral system through the local PAZ churches; provided basic health training to lay workers known as health promotors, referred to local Brazilian opthamologist who performed basic care and eye surgeries, glasses [Glaucoma, Cataract with & w/o IOLs, Trabectulectomy, emergencies]. Assisted water filter production in partnership with Samaritan's Purse - Canada; and water well drilling. Epidemiologically ID'd main causes of pandemic dental caries and tooth loss in all ages. Gave basic health teaching & trained the trainers; for thousands of villagers. Including basic gardening & nutrition; taught multi-plantation system of raised garden boxes in back yards. Doing so was an attempt to decrease severe dental caries, GI disorders & chronic malnutrition that was directly related to subsistence planting & dependence on cyanide laced - carbohydrate loaded mannioc or casava consumption.

Staff Nurse, responsible for providing any care needed to assigned team of medical-surgical patients, ranging from 12 to 112 years of age. Included telemetry patients, since unit functioned as Step-down unit for ICU/CCU. Primary patient advocate with patients and physicians. Became the units Quality Assurance Nurse, responsible for auditing nursing documentation in patient charts on days not assigned to provide patient care; reported directly to Unit Manager.

Worked part-time, and for agency part-time, while finishing up requirements for Master of Science in Nursing Degree from The Ohio State University.

Supervised all nursing staff, which were all union based. Assured provision of basic health care needed at two health clinics, one at Scioto Village [girls] and one at Riverview [boys] on this Complex. Supervised all health professionals employed on complex including: psychiatrist, physician, dentists, nurses. Participated in SV/RV Complex committees, including oversight for ongoing First Aid and CPR training for employees. Had oversight with local contracts for all external health care/hospital services. Worked with corrections staff inter-departmentally to facilitate health care for all youth. Counseled youth as needed, had input in youth evaluation sessions.

Worked on research project granted by the national Division of Nursing, with project oversight provided by renowned nurse and researcher, Rena Murtha. Project involved evaluating health care choices made by male and female youth incarcerated within the Ohio Department of Youth Services, in partnership with ODYS. Oversight to be given by Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, who was to participate but became ill. Acquired all responsibilities for doing all in the field data collection at two DYS facilities and 3 health clinics, and assisted in writing formal document of final results.

Title position created for me by Director of Operations, when recruited from temporary agency after doing the update on all Nursing Care Plans for this 150 bed ECF/Skilled facility, which was on a 90 day fast track at the time. As Staff Development Director, responsible for all annual and ongoing training and inservicing as required by the State of Ohio for all hired employees. Also trained and oriented all new hires in Nursing Assistant and Charge Nurse and Unit Manager positions. Was in this role when became mandated to retrain all existing Nursing Assistants to become state supervised STNA's, succeeded with 100% pass-rate on first STNA exam in Ohio.

Worked part-time as a temporary nurse/agency nurse in variety of settings from ECF to hospital to adult prison system [ODRC - Orient]. Utilized professional nursing skills for this agency, in order to work part-time to help make ends meet financially while in graduate school at The Ohio State University.

Worked with sophomore nursing students in traditional BSN nursing program track, in lab, small groups and as clinical instructor; and with academic advising.

Served as Director of Nursing for three years at this facility, before leaving for graduate school at The Ohio State University in 1984. Helped EMRC maintain Licensure and Certification accreditation with Ohio Department of Health for this 36 bed ICF-MR facility. Brought this facility without a DON for 6 months, into compliance on all levels. On-call 24/7, year round; supervised all nurse and nursing assistant staff on 3 shifts. Interviewed, hired, evaluated all nurse and nursing assistant employees. Worked with contract physician's to provide medical care needed and monthly IHP meeting documentation on behalf of physician. Did purchasing and maintenance of all supplies and medications needed for 36 in-house residents. Served on inter-disciplinary IHP team member, assisted in writing Behavioral Programs. Provided most of the general, annual inservice and training required for all employees and nursing department employees in particular.

Staff nurse.Charge Nurse on first 11-7 shift and then 3-11 shift; filled in as Nursing Supervisor over the entire hospital when nursing supervisor called off; which included ICU, ER and surgery. Provided nursing care to wide variety of patients on medical-surgical floor as assigned; participated in Code Blue team as needed. Provided suggestions and recommendations for improving patient care and safety, [When hired, this hospital was newly acquired by Doctor's Hospital].

Hired as graduate nurse at St. Thomas Medical Center, a premier hospital in Akron, Ohio. Worked on a 3 specialty unit, with swing responsibilities between all 3 units, rotating to each every month for 6 months: Orthopedics, Urology and Oncology. Asked to work full-time on Oncology Unit only during last 6 months, as other nurses expressed difficulty working with patients and their families who were having to deal with with death and dying issues. Started on 11-7 moved to 3-11 shift. Included care of trauma patients, post-op surgical patients such as hip and knee replacements; surgeries and treatments for all three specialties; including working with oncology patients that were in-patients and out-patients coming in for chemotherapy and other treatments. Assisted family and patients while coping with treatments, death and dying. Worked here until moved back to Athens area, to be closer to family.
