I am currently an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Pediatrics and of Medicine in the Divisions of Pediatric Endocrinology and Endocrinology & Metabolism at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). I am also an Associate Medical Director of the UCSF Child and Adolescent Gender Center and a Staff Endocrinologist at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SFVAHCS). I am board certified in Internal Medicine, General Pediatrics, Diabetes, Endocrinology, & Metabolism, and Pediatric Endocrinology. I see adult and pediatric patients at UCSF Health and the SFVAHCS. I completed a combined adult and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at UCSF and a combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency at Indiana University School of Medicine, the largest program in the country, where I also served as a Chief Resident during my PGY4 year. I completed my MD/MPH at Northwestern University, Feinberg School of Medicine, and double majored in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry and History of Science, History of Medicine at Yale University (Davenport College '06).My bench research previously focused on phosphate metabolism and the role of matrix metalloproteinases in inflammation, while my current clinical research focuses on skeletal effects of gender-affirming therapies in transgender and gender diverse youth. My research has been supported by NIH/NICHD/NIDDK T32/F32 awards, UCSF CTSI pilot award, UCSF CCMBM NIAMS p30 awards, UCSF Department of Radiology Seed Grant, and the Pediatric Endocrine Society Clinical Scholar Award. My current research support comes from an NICHD K23 award. Clinically, I am interested in metabolic bone disease, growth/puberty, gender-affirming medical care, differences in sex development, and the transition of care from pediatric to adult clinical settings especially in relation to endocrinopathies.
