This entails development and implementation of the Aflasafe commercialization strategies through engagement with private and public investors, governments, development partners and farmers in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Ghana, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Senegal & Gambia. It also entails.Achievements to date:• Commercialization Strategies developed: Led the development of four (4) Aflasafe Commercialization strategies for Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and supported numerous others.• Private Sector Engagement: Led engagement and licensing of Aflasafe manufacturing &/or distribution investors in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Malawi. • Licensee Performance Management: Introduced quarterly joint work planning and progress review sessions with Aflasafe licensees leading to efficient planning and execution of business development activities and delivery of expectations.• Partner Capacity strengthening: Establish capacity needs assessment framework for Licensees and coordinated provision of support required.• Business Development: In close collaboration with the licensees, engaged strategic anchor buyers of aflatoxin safe grains.• Knowledge Management & Learning: As the IITA Point of Contact, worked closely with other consortium partners i.e. Chemonics & Dalberg to develop four (4) Aflasafe Commercialization Guides, which act as reference materials for IITA and other research organizations considering commercializing their research products.• People Management: Supervised business development specialists across Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana, Nigeria, & Burkina Faso.

East & Southern Africa

• Private-Public Sector Engagement: Organizing the Aflasafe Investors Forums at country level and the world’s 1st Aflasafe Conference in Arusha, Tanzania, actively engaging stakeholders in public and private sector on the management of aflatoxins.• Engagement with Government: Built business cases for Aflasafe with the Ministry of Agriculture, at the District & National level and advocated for the purchase of US$ 0.5M worth of Aflasafe for vulnerable smallholder farmers.• Collaborations with development partners: Created awareness on aflatoxin and the solution Aflasafe resulting in active collaboration with development partners such as GIZ and other USAID funded projects.• Value Chain Engagement: Consulted intensively with grain value chain players, ministries, and regulators, resulting in the increased adoption of Aflasafe for the management of Aflatoxins across countries.• Business planning: Supported the development and oversaw the implementation of Aflasafe’ s business plans with licensees.• Project Operations Management: Ensured the team complied with Chemonics & IITA procurement policies across countries.

As the Strategy & Agribusiness Advisor, I support Aflasafe Commercialization across focus countries. Aflasafe is an innovative & easy to use, environmentally friendly biopesticide for the management of aflatoxin at farm level. • Proposal Development & Fundraising: As part of the core team charged proposal development, made significant contributions in the design of the Kenya Market-led Horticulture (HortIMPACT) Project and the Smart Water for Agriculture Program at SNV.• Staff Management & Reporting: As the de-facto Deputy Team Leader assisted in the recruitment, training and mentoring fellow advisors in the HortIMPACT project as well as in the preparation of reports to the Donor -EKN & SNV Management.• Private Sector Engagement: By the end of 2016, through market -led business cases, 15 private input companies and over 4000 entrepreneurial farmers were actively engaged with HortIMPACT thematic focus areas. • Multi-Stakeholder Engagement: Organized 3 vibrant multi-stakeholder forums around key programme thematic issues i.e. inclusion of farmers; reduction of food losses & improvement of food safety, through which we engaged with the academia, research, private sector as well as various govt institutions e.g., Horticultural Crops Directorate, among others.• Programme Management: Deliberately build synergies between HortIMPACT and other SNV projects like the Renewable Energy – biogas programme & Dairy projects and worked across functions to strengthen the value proposition to the smallholder farmers

• Project Management: Spearheaded the design, development, testing and implementation of the mobile-based Grain Aggregation & Warehouse Management Apps with Virtual City and producer groups across the country.• Enterprise Development: Established 11 Warehouse Receipts Systems (WRS) certified warehouses in which smallholder farmers sold more than 15,000MT of assorted grains to structured grain markets, improved incomes, and livelihoods. • Innovative Agri-financing: Provided increased access to over Kshs.150M in credit for over 2500 smallholder farmers, through WRS program with KREP Bank –FSA; Equity Bank; Chase Bank and Trans-National Bank. • Supply Chain Development: Trained over 12,963 farmers and 65 personnel from certified warehouses on post-harvest management and grain quality standards, positively impacting the quality of grain received and stored under WRS.• Market research: Led the EAGC Kenya team in executing research studies such as the Survey on Legumes & Pulses in Kenya done for Unga Group, which led to the new in market AMANA branded cereals.• Development of Training materials: Co-authored several training materials for the grain sector including the Grain Handling & Warehousing Systems training manual for grain warehouse operators. • EAGC Agribusiness Expos: Diligently organized and executed the annual EAGC Agribusiness Expos in 2012 & 2013.

• Market Linkage for Smallholder Farmers: Successfully commercialized smallholder soya bean production in Western Kenya through linkage to improved seed supply systems, aggregation, and markets thereby increased household income.• Engagement in commercial trade: Through SLS’s smallholder friendly aggregation system, met sorghum supply obligations to WFP and East Africa Maltings Ltd. • Private sector collaboration: Worked closely with Mumias Sugar Co. to adopt an integrated soil fertility management by intercropping soya bean with sugarcane. In addition to other collaborations with Promasidor Ltd, Equity bank and Syngenta.• Proposal writing & Fund raising: Developed a proposal on the establishment of a grain storage structure at a community level that was funded by USAID- Market Linkage Initiative to the tune of US$200,000.

• People management: Effectively supervised and supported six (6) key account representatives leading to doubling of the sales volumes for spirit brands sold, in addition to developing excellent customer relationships.• Sales Management: Exceeded brand performance targets by over 90% and achieved 100% recovery of all extended credit by distributors and key accounts thanks to observing the credit policy in cooperation with the Commercial Manager.• Product Development & Marketing: Contributed significantly in market testing of new brands as Smirnoff Ice & White Cap light.
