As a technology reporter and the China representative of Bloomberg’s global AI squad based in Hong Kong, I have over the years covered the Chinese internet and Beijing’s tensions with the US over tech supremacy before jumping feet-first into reporting China’s historical crackdown on its largest corporations including Alibaba. I have built a wide network among Chinese entrepreneurs, investors and policy advisors, reporting on how they navigated geopolitical risks and policy changes in the tech industry. I have won awards for extensive on-the-ground reporting and exclusive interviews with industry heavyweights like Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei. Since the boom of ChatGPT-like AI services in 2023, I have shifted my focus to writing about the incipient technology and the regulations and human rights issues around AI. Now as an MIT fellow, I’m pursuing a research project that will expand my skill sets and deepen my understanding of emerging technologies’ profound impact on society and politics.
