As General Manager, I was responsible for the strategic and business planning for The Races Ltd Partnership, operational delivery and for achieving financial targets. Leading a team of 17 people, plus a seasonal workforce of another 40, together we delivered marketing, event management and temporary infrastructure services to the Racing Clubs and Codes throughout NZ. I built a culture of teamwork, innovation and continuous improvement, and led the team through a period of significant changes. Understanding our customers (and their customers) and aiming to become their trusted advisors, we successfully delivered significant value to the racing industry. I reported to the Board of Directors.About The Races Ltd PartnershipIt is in the events management and marketing business.The Races helps to plan and deliver some of the best and biggest racing events in New Zealand (i.e. Christmas at the Races, Interislander Summer Festival, Daffodil Day, etc).This was achieved through:Planning: Assisting racing clubs to develop their events. Marketing: Develop and deliver national and local marketing of their events. Event and marketing consultancy and design supportEvent Infrastructure & Theming: Operating big screens with live productions, supplying temporary event infrastructure and materials to enhance the look and feel of the event on-course.Our customers were:We provided event and marketing services to racing clubs nationwide (from far North to deep South).New Zealand has more than 100 racing clubs and The Races worked with most of them. What value did we bring?We brought excitement and quality entertainment to racegoers across New Zealand; we assisted racing clubs to deliver superior events and improve their financial returns.
