Management of up to 8 full and part time programmers, 2 assistants, and 9 experts in the design and development of expert systems in agriculture production. Responsible for direction of projects, time, and resources for development group. Under my direction the ESDG became a organized, efficient program with a reputation for getting projects completed. -Management of budgets of in excess of $120,000 yearly. -Manager of cooperative project with the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (US side). Two year project to deliver expert systems to the field. Budget of $450,000. Organized visiting scientist trips in US and Egypt. Daily management of budget, personnel, and equipment. -Directed the development of 7 expert systems including Penn State Apple Orchard Consultant, MAIZE (field corn), PeachES, PLEX (potato leaf hopper in alfalfa), VITIS, SCMX (sweet corn), and Bee Aware. -Completed and delivered PSAOC, Bee Aware, PLEX, and MAIZE. This includes manuals, brochures, and evaluation tools. -Programmed the Bee Aware system. -Directed the development of The User’s Manual for PSAOC, which won a Blue Ribbon Award in the 1993 Education Aids Competition of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers. -Directed the beta test evaluations by the users and the incorporation of their suggestions and comments into the expert systems. -Presented seminars and other programs on individual expert systems and expert system development. -Developed training programs for new programmers, domain experts, and end users.
