In this role I have been responsible for developing senior managers and leaders across the world in their Business English skills. These leaders have been in various roles working for large global corporations including Dyson, McDonalds, Hyundai, John Deere & Ford.

This role afforded me the opportunity to influence policy making, regarding closing the attainment gap of learners living in poverty (SIMD 1-3) and those living in the higher deciles of the population. Funding was targeted in the beginning at the poorest seven local authorities and I was assigned to one of these authorities. I was the intermediary between the authority and the government in terms of how extra funding should be spent. I had to advise on local authority planning, spending and assess outcomes and report this back to the Scottish Government.

Here I had responsibility for 13 educational establishments covering early years, special schools, primary schools and secondary schools. My role was to support and challenge these schools to constantly improve. I did this through data analysis, learning and teaching visits, teacher training input, communicating and advising headteachers and teachers. Encouraging and supporting self evaluation at all levels of the educational process. I kept abreast of new research and I was involved in original research in particular in the areas of literacy and assessment. Working with teacher training institutions, and Scottish Government to improve attainment for all.I was responsible for the development of literacy, numeracy and modern languages across the authority. In this time Renfrewshire Council was regarded as leading in the implementation of the Modern Languages 1+2 policy, also their authority Literacy plan was praised by Education Scotland. I led this literacy group from across services and presented our plan at a National Literacy conference.

Here I was responsible for 16 out of the 32 local authorities to review literacy plans and allocate project funding for literacy development within these authorities.I also identified excellent practice and worked with web developers in order to share this with other local authorities.I attended, organised and spoke at National Literacy Conferences. I led the literacy and languages team that were developing Scotland's new Curriculum for Excellence at this time.

I am a dual qualified primary and secondary teacher. This post involved me working with primary and secondary senior staff to identify areas that needed improvement in the areas of literacy and numeracy. The main action was to make the transition from primary to secondary as smooth as possible, thereby eliminating learners having to repeat their learning in secondary schools due to lack of communication or awareness between both sectors. I was also responsible for sharing of good practise between schools.
