Sub-Editor, Creative Team
CurrentAs a sub-editor with the Creative Services Department of Seven West Media, I have honed my skills as a sub-editor and writer. I am versatile and nimble in how I adapt to different genres and publications and their unique tones and audience. I work well to tight and overlapping deadlines, devoting myself to fact-checking as well as recrafting and clarifying stories where necessary while all the time remaining sensitive to allowing the writer to keep his or her voice. I work on several products such as New Homes and West Real Estate, which are the property mainstays of Perth's flagship daily paper. I also work on respected industry magazines such as National Mining Chronicle and Leader, the magazine of the Australian Institute of Management. I also attend to corporate brochures and programs by organisations such as Tourism WA and several universities. My day-to-day responsibilities include sub-editing, proofreading, fact-checking to ensure the content is accurate and free from grammatical, spelling or factual errors. I also have experience with digital platforms such as EDM as I upload digital newsletters, post stories to Facebook and Twitter and am familiar with SEO practices.I write headlines and captions and polish stories to ensure they read and flow well within the allocated space. On occasion, if the Section Editor feels some stories do not meet the requirements of the brief, I re-write them completely, often to very tight deadlines. I function as a kind of middleman, a bridge between reporters, designers and the department managers to ensure smooth workflow and achievement of task milestones and deadlines. I am adept at multi-tasking in deadline-driven, high-pressure environments. I am a people-person and love working in and contributing to a team. I also collate, upload stories to Seven West's digital newsletters using the Cue platform and share admin duties for our social media platforms - Facebook and Twitter.
