Funded by Sport Northern Ireland Community Sport Programme I managed a programme that developed new opportunities for people who lived in deprived areas of the Larne Borough to take part in Sport and Physical activity. The main aim was to initiate community sport development projects in disadvantaged communities that will improve the well-being of individuals and increase participation among groups that are under-represented. I secured an additional £50,000 was secured from Sport Northern Ireland to expand the community sport programme to additional areas in Carnolough (co Antrim) who were in high social need in terms of proximity to services. This allowed the post of Community sports development officer to sustain the programmes already initiated within Larne town and to establish to new community partnerships within Carnlough to develop new programmes that offered new opportunities to take part and remain involved in physical activity. This involved forming partnerships with local schools, sports clubs and community groups to encourage both inter and intra community relations using sport as a medium to promote mutual respect.
