Panelists assessment applications from dental professionals who gained their primary dental qualifications from Countries outside the European Economic Area for admission to the UK General Dental Council register. We work in teams of at least 3 to assess applications and make recommendations.

This quality assurance role involves visiting educational establishments of Dental Professional training that offer qualifications for dentists and dental care professionals to ensure that they maintain high standards in dental education. This includes dentists, dental nurses, dental hygienisits, dental therapists, laboratory technicians and orthodontic therapists.Also assess submissions for new awarding bodies.

This is a project to celebrate the success of women dental professional over the last 100 years from 1918 when the right to vote was achieved for (some) women to present day. It showcases women from all aspects of the dental professional. The aim is to celebrate and to demonstrate achievements that the whole dental profession (and society) can be proud of. The power of mentoring and having role models is also an important aspect of the project. Profiles of women dental professionals can be viewed at Dental Mentors UK over the year. As Lead Tutor, I developed and lecture on the BUOLD course in Law and Ethics for dental professionals for the University of Bristol. First year in 2014 received fantastic feedback from students. All those taking the examination passed. Intake for 2018 doing well, not long to their exams now.

I lecture to the first year dental students on aspects of ethics, including confidentiality, poor performance and business ethics.

My role is to manage the continuing registration aspects of the Deanery. These include continuing professional development courses for all dental registrants; vocational training by assessment, working with dentists who are experiencing difficulties and educational assessments. The role is varied and I work with a great group of people. It's a large geographical area stretching from Milton Keynes in the North of the patch to the Isle of Wight in the South of the patch.

I was strategic lead for dentistry, responsible for developing and implementing the dental programme for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. I advised the senior management team on all aspects of dentistry and contributed to the effective strategic development and management of the organisation.

As an External Verifier, I was responsible for ensuring quality assurance of the oral healthcare national vocational qualification for City and Guilds (the awarding body). This involved monitoring centres against criteria and procedures, using national occupational standards to ensure ongoing quality and consistency of assessment practice and decisions. This work complements the work undertaken for both the General Dental Council and NCAS.

As Caldicott Guardian for the NHS Information Authority, the role required leadership for Caldicott Guardians in both NHS and social care organizations throughout the UK, providing support and advice on complex issues. As previously stated I was directly accountable to the Chief Executive and Chairman of the NHSIA.

As a DVTA committee member I worked with colleagues in teams of three to review written evidence supplied by dentists seeking to prove experience equivalent to vocational training. The evidence provided was analysed against criteria and a consensus judgement was made on a case by case basis.

I was responsible for managing the community and personal dental services within South Warwickshire PCT for ten years. As clinical leader it was my responsibility to undertake annual performance appraisals with the dentists and this was an important element in supporting staff and reviewing clinical ability/skills. I also undertook a variety of general management responsibilities for a wide range of healthcare professionals, to include speech and language therapists, clinical psychologists, physiotherapists, nurses and learning disability services in addition to medical and dental staff.I was also responsible for a number of large projects, including project managing the creation of South Warwickshire PCT, which included a merger of South Warwickshire Combined Care with two Primary Care Groups to become a Primary Care Trust with effect from 1st. April 2002. In this capacity I was directly responsible to the Chief Executive and a Project Board. This project required the co-ordination of seven multi agency and multi professional sub projects and considerable critical path analysis, and strict Prince principals were applied. The project required the co-ordination of a number of important stakeholders within the Trust, PCGs, independent contractors, social services and NHS Executive. In additional public consultation was a major part of the project. It was my responsibility to lead the project and ensure it met all national and local requirements and was completed to strict guidelines that were externally applied. The project was successful.Prior to this project I had managed the Year 2000 project for South Warwickshire Combined Care, this required working with all services and staff within the organization. It also required close working with neighbouring NHS organisations, the police, social services, independent contractors and local authorities to co-ordinate plans across the geographical area.
