Additionally, the freshwater demand of different sectors (agriculture, industry, drinking water) increased, causing an increased pressure on the groundwater system. The combination of fast drainage and increased use of groundwater for human activities, led to declining groundwater tables in the Dutch Pleistocene uplands. Given the changing climate resulting in dry periods, solutions for water retention are needed to decrease the pressure on the groundwater system, and to guarantee the future water supply for different sectors. We focus in this PhD study on how the measure controlled drainage with subirrigation can contribute to the larger water challenge of retaining, replenishing and discharging water in the Netherlands.

Together with a small taskforce, created by the education committee, we did research to implement the educational curriculum Scientific Writing in the BSc Soil, Water, Atmosphere. We had contacts with teachers and create ideas to implement it in the Bachelor.

Help students with their questions about the possibilities after pre-university education in order to make the right choice for a Bachelor study, through giving presentations on the Open Day of Wageningen University, answering questions via email and creating the video below.
