For many years during my career in special education I have been a member of the Council for Exceptional Children, the ARC, Texas Association for Speech Therapist, Nebraska Association for Speech and Language Pathologists, Texas Education Association, Nebraska Education Association, and Wyoming Education Association. At Hardin-Simmons and the University of Wyoming I was a student member of the American Speech and Hearing Association.I served on the Board of Directors for the Casper ARC from 1988 to 1994. In 1993 to 1994 I served as President of the ARC of Casper, Wyoming. I served on the Board of Directors for the Wyoming Education Association serving also as President of the Central District, Delegate to the Wyoming Delegate Assembly and as a Delegate to the NEA Delegate Assembly from 1994 to 2007. I have been a member of the NEA since 1970 as a student member and became a professional member in 1973 until the present. I am now a lifetime retired member of the NEA and WEA.

I was responsible for hiring and supervision of staff, parent training, staff training, and community education. The Pre-School had a student who was deaf and utilized American Sign Language to communicate. I completed a course in American Sign and Signing Exact English. When the student went to public schools, I also became employed by the school district as there was no one working for the schools who knew sign language. My knowledge of sign language was still fairly basic but I agreed to continue to take classes and to coordinate teacher in-service and classes in sign language. The student moved away at the end of the year therefore I decided to leave Craig, Colorado to work on an advanced degree in Learning Disabilities.

The Service Unit provided the local schools with Speech Therapists and Resource Teachers. Our school assignments were usually changed each year. I started at ESU #13 as a Speech, Language and Hearing Therapist. After the passage of Public Education Law 94-142 ensuring free and appropriate education to individuals with disabilities the Speech and Language Therapists in the State of Nebraska were given the opportunity to take classes at the community colleges in special education and learning disabilities to attain a state teaching certificate in Learning Disabilities. We then were able to visit our rural schools and provide dual services as a Speech Therapist and as a Resource Teacher.

I had units in Sidney, Kimble, Scottsbluff, Chadron, Hay Springs, and Gordon Nebraska. This program had state funding from "soft funds" that ran out in December of 1972.
