As a writer/performer/filmmaker, I strive to promote discourse and foster understanding of LGBT issues and cultural diversity. I am currently at work on a new play, Getting There, which explores the causes and effects of gun violence as a means of informing strategies for prevention and intervention. I am also in development with my feature screenplay, Where the Señoritas Are, a romantic comedy which won the Zaki Gordon Award for Excellence in Screenwriting.I have been afforded invaluable opportunities to hone my skills and develop craft: Latino Writers Lab at the New York International Latino Film Festival and National Association of Latino Independent Producers, and a Van Lier Fellowship at Mabou Mines, as well as residencies in the Joseph Papp Public Theater Latino Writers Lab and the Dorothy Strelsin (Primary Stages) New American Writers Group. I thrived from those workshops – that spirit of collaboration and determination to evolving one’s work are what I hope to foster among students.
