Janis Smith is Past President of the Board of Housing Unlimited, Inc., a Maryland-based nonprofit that provides affordable, independent housing for adults in mental health recovery in Montgomery County. The organization promotes independence and recovery by providing a stable and comfortable home. Smith is a 2024 recipient of The President's Lifetime Achievement Award for her long time commitment to, and active participation in volunteer service to her community. She was honored in 2017 by MReport and the Five Star Institute, as a "Power Player," one of 60 women making a difference in the housing industry.
