About Janitt Dott

From humble origins as a prose pen name of playwright Cynthia Hanson Tripp, janitt dott has forged her OWN unique identity as a gonzo journalist, political activist, admin & discussion moderator, page/site developer & inadvertently notorious online personality. In addition to her writing projects centering on Shadowland, her 100 year old rural Wisconsin homestead & horse rescue, janitt dott has been an active "go to" participant, freelance senior copywriter/editor/publicist & brainstormer for a variety of startup projects, artistic enterprises and worthy online causes in the past dozen years (since broadband hit the heartland). Her efforts range from penning the sprawling screenplay for German sci-fi author Konrad Hollenstein's vast =DREATH TRILOGY= to her current engagement as head writer/senior copy editor for Michael Mape's promising Graveyard Innovations. And, though rescuing slaughter bound horses is a labor of love, even pen names must eat and 16 horses eat A LOT. So, to feed & care for "The Kill Pen Ponies at Shadowland", janitt dott is offering her established services as a writer (copy/feature/script/ad/press) editor and publicist on a freelance basis with the proceeds going to support the herd.

  • Shadowland Farm
    Kill Pen Ponies Savior
    Shadowland Farm Jan 2013 - Present
    The INTENT of Kill Pen Ponies is to spawn and support activism on the raw subject of Equine Rescue as seen at public auctions where countless sound healthy horses offered by fond sellers end up NOT being sold to new “homes” who will keep and care for them but instead endure hardship and cruelty as they are shipped from the US (where slaughter for meat is prohibited) to packed stockyards in Canada & Mexico where they will be…butchered.

The fate of cats & dogs is championed by heart wrenching celebrity pitches and shocking exposes in the media. But, sadly, the harsh and brutal deaths of our largest Companion Animal is a virtually unknown atrocity to most.
Within the context of that “cause” are amazing acts of compassion and courage to SAVE doomed horses resulting in not only tragic outcomes but also a wealth of courageous saves, amazing recoveries, compelling first person accounts and heartwarming images.

This is the STUFF of “Reality TV” and the best news for production is that Rescuers are already generating dramatic inspiring content on a weekly basis on cellphones websites and Facebook pages. A reality series needs only to harvest the abundant content that is already…out there…waiting to be shared.

That said, Equine Rescue is a highly contentious debate with many pros & cons played out in a closed self protecting often fractious horse community that does not welcome…outsiders. To get...inside...This Great Story takes a skilled and sensitive guide who can effectively navigate the terrain and shape the narrative.
The SolutionTo restore and outfit 100 year old Shadowland Farm in rural Wisconsin as a horse rescue facility;
To Document that upgrade process, then to follow the colorful people & horses involved in the daily operations of Shadowland as the central focus of a new syndicated Reality Series that dramatically and entertainingly highlights the complexity challenges solutions and successes of equine rescue and rehabilitation.

  • Shadowland (Ad)Ventures
    Independent Business Owner
    Shadowland (Ad)Ventures Jun 1989 - Present
    Bay City, Wisconsin
    Gonzo journalist Janitt Dott lives with her playwright alter ego Cynthia Hanson Tripp on an 80 acre hundred year old Civil War land grant homestead built by her great grandfather on a bluff above the Mississippi on the Wisconsin/Minnesota boarder across the river from Red Wing (the town that gave the world distinctive pottery and sensible work boots) The farm also cultivated her illustrator grandfather, Arthur C Hanson who painted the original logo for the LandOLakes Lady.Tripp/Dott persists day to day with too many rescued horses, some damn good (and not so good) farm dogs, a colony of cleverly named barn cats, a flock of fractious geese & feisty chickens, hutches of fertile fuzzy bunnies and the farm's original tenant, the unidentified Union soldier rumored to buried in her front yard.THIS rugged life has inspired non fiction works including "Millennium Gothic: the generation gap essays" and "Walden Extreme, a survival guide for modern rural American life". Both titles have dovetailed to form the basis for "Shadowland" a reality series in development that explores the dear but desperate state of aging farmers on their fading farms in The Heartland and suggests some...unique solutions...to 21st century re- settlers.ALL her life two equal passions have vied for her attention.Writing & HorsesSo she is ALSO defining the mission and creating the location format and content for "Kill Pen Ponies" a second and/or alternative reality series that follows the amazing courage triumph & tragedies of the intensely moving emerging Equine Rescue Movement in America.Her latest project is to finally utilize her mostly untouched 65 acre wooded "wisconsin coulee" for it's delightful camping potential through the upcoming HipCamp collectiveIn all of these ways, Shadowland Farm looks become the lens to focus attention information and support on more than one...great story.
