Responsible for managing the centralized R&D activities ( i.e. the R&D portfolio) serving UPM’s Paper businesses – in current company structure UPM Paper ENA and UPM Specialty Papers. Research teams located mainly in R&D Lappeenranta, but responsibilities for Paper businesses’ supporting activities extend also to Central European Research Center (CERC) in Augsburg and Asian Research Center (AsRC) in Changshu. Acting as R&D’s business liaison and participating in various strategy, development and product management processes run by the businesses.Responsible for managing & developing the infrastructure operations of Northern European Research Center (NERC) in Lappeenranta. Research center offers state-of-the-art analytical, lab & piloting services through its five laboratories, Biorefinery Development Center (BrDC) and supporting service functions to UPM’s business stakeholders.Team size 100+. Budget responsibility ~ 10 M€.

Responsible for all centralized R&D activities serving Paper Business Group in UPM. Businesses include all UPM products (News, MFS, SC, LWC, MWC, WFU, WFC, Label & Specialty Papers). Leadership of several research teams focusing on strategic and operative research projects and programs, as well as delivering expert services to UPM’s manufacturing units & customers. Global operations include responsibilities of activities in Central Europe (Research Center in Augsburg, Germany) and Asia (Research Center in Changshu, China). Team size ~ 35.

Responsible for R&D project portfolio management concerning UPM publication paper grades (News, MFS, SC, LWC, MWC). Key activities in this position include idea gathering & screening, project definition & implementation support. Member of Publication Paper Operations Management Team in UPM Paper Business Group. Responsible for R&D project portfolio management concerning coated magazine papers (LWC, MWC). Other responsibilities e.g. development of project management system within R&D organization, studies of R&D effectiveness (eMBA) & leading the working group to redefine R&D’s organizational structure. Matrix leadership role.

Responsible for Technical Customer Service (TCS) for LWCR / Kaipola (lightweight coated magazine paper for rotogravure printing) and MFC / Jämsänkoski (matt finished coated magazine paper for HSWO printing). Main responsibilities managing development topics, complaints and technical communication with customers & sales companies, bringing customer feedback and participating in product development and PM line management.
