I'd rather coach fluency in English face to face, but online appears to be second best. I've built up some experience with this kind of communication when doing an assignment for the University of Technology Delft (TU Delft) and PwC.

I contributed to the online publication of The Loadstar. Editor Gavin van Marle and I know each other from the old IFW times. I was IFW's Netherlands correspondent in the 90ties. If needed, I contribute news from the Dutch-based maritime industry to HCB and recently to The Motorship. Fairplay (the international shipping weekly) ended sadly in 2018. Quite a few of my colleagues there have become my friends.

It's a pleasure to work for various special interest publications in the maritime industry, but there is more in the world than maritime related affairs. That is why I continuously explore topics worthwhile writing about.

The Marine Club Rotterdam is a networking organisation for the Rotterdam Area based entrepreneurs in the maritime cluster. It is a very active group of highly qualified people in senior management. Quite a few are distinguished with municipal or royal honours for their efforts done for the well-being of port and city of Rotterdam. The Marine Club has its own page at LinkedIn. Supporting secretary Sabine Quirein is the owner of this group. The latest project involves writing up articles for the TU Delft Faculty TPM website. It's all about the design of new technologies and their usefulness for the public at large. Earlier, I collaborated with Eelco Kraefft and others at SpotOnLearning who teach seafarers to improve their command of spoken and written English.

the Dutch court of justice in Rotterdam and the Rotterdam-based police force used my services as a translator and interpreter in Dutch/English - English/Dutch. Currently I contribute to UK-based maritime special interest media, amongst them The Loadstar.

Stichting Daniel den Hoed has been established by Rotterdam-based port physician Willem den Hoed. Its target is to preserve the medical heritage of his father Dr. Daniel den Hoed. Together with his wife, this cancer specialist did some remarkable research and development work for improved treatment of various kinds of cancer. Willem den Hoed asked me to do some publicity work for the foundation. Prior to this volunteering assignment, I did some PR and translation work for the Support Casper fundraising organisation for further research aimed at developing an effective therapy for pancreatic cancer.

Practice shows that one can be somewhat doubtful about his or her command of English, even when the basic command is well enough. The occasion may arise when non-native speakers in English are asked to address an international audience or are invited as a keynote speaker at conferences. I can be of help when preparing a presentation in English before a group of people and offer some confidence in presenting.

Journalism leads to anything; being appointed as secretary to a diverse association of cultural entrepreneurs, text writers and shopkeepers in the oldest garden city but one in the Netherlands, being Tuindorp Vreewijk. Thanks to everybody who congratulated me for this voluntary work.

Some years ago, the Dutch Maritime Network (Nederland MaritiemLand) asked me to report in the privatised special interest publication Maritiem Nederland. The magazine was restyled some years ago.

In the mid 90ties I started working briefly as a contributing reporter for Radio Rijnmond. In 2001 I co-hosted a programme - called Boei - broadcasted on Saterday mornings, although only for six months. Currently I contribute only when asked; mostly when colleagues consult me or ask for input on shipping related issues.

Publisher Dennis Vinkoert and I go a long way, but it has taken quite some time to be involved in his maritime publications. It was a pleasure to finally contribute to Port Industry. However, the current publisher stopped the circulation of this magazine. Other publications seem having become mere advertorials for various companies.

This magazine and others of Rotterdam-based publisher, trade fair and congres organisator Navingo focus on developments in the various sectors in the maritime industry.

The Shortsea Promotion Centre Holland was part of the European Shortsea Network. It promoted the use of shortsea for intra-European transportation. I contributed to its publications and was member of its editorial board.Unfortunately, the Shortsea Promotion Centre Holland had to stop its activities because of lack of funding. Attempts done to collaborate with other promotion centres, such as those for rail and barging, were unsuccessful.

This special interest publication for intermodal transport used my services in the late eighties, early nineties. I offered to contribute to the weekly - today an internet-based daily - mid 2010. Fortunately Editor Kizzi Nkwocha still wants me on board.

the Coulsdon (close to London)-based special interest magazine used my journalistic skills for covering maritime news, analyses and features. They were published in its internet-based daily and in its weekly. The current owner of Fairplay - IHS - wants to grab copyrights, lending and reproduction rights from freelance contributors. Those who do not sign the assignment of those rights by contract are not commissioned any more. I'm one of them

I have contributed to Belgian-based De Lloyd as Netherlands correspondent.

I'contributed articles on marketing and advertisement, which was an interesting job to do.

I started as a Rotterdam-based correspondent for this national daily, but my contributions were worthwile enough to be fit for the features and financial pages. In fact, my articles were published all over the paper, even once on the sports page, which is remarkable for those who know me.

I've contributed articles on urban planning and environment and could still do when commissioned.
